Spa day (11th November 2011)

This morning Amanda emailed me to say she was heading out for a yoga session but by the time I had woken up and got her email my body just didn’t respond in time. She runs every morning (!) and although my mind would love to join her my body just says ‘no chance’ at the mo! I don’t know a part of me really thinks that even if I had the healthiest lifestyle and the earliest of nights I still wouldn’t want to get up in the morning!

Instead we arranged to meet at lunch time for a spa afternoon. Massages are big here in Chiang Mai and I know they’re nice and relaxing and good for you it’s just not something I really go in for. There was a girl on our retreat that’s here for 3 weeks and said that she had promised herself a massage every day, now that’s dedication.

Yesterday when I was wandering around some of the lanes I came across a massage place that looked quite nice, to be honest there’s a massage centre on every corner and nearly every shop in between! Anyway Amanda and Erin choose to go with my discovery and the three of us spent the next hour enjoying a luxurious massage.

It was nice but I’m not sure I would go out of my way to do that every day.

Afterwards the three of us headed out to the east of the city to a local market which was quite interesting before heading back to town and making plans for the evening.

Tonight is the last night of the festival and supposed to be a huge celebration, thing is I think we’re all a bit festivalled out now!

The festival procession

Tonight we manage to find a good place to watch the parade go by and again it just seemed to go on forever and ever, tonight though it was a bit different, the costumes were far more fancy and the floats were just incredible.

We watched the procession for a good hour or so before deciding it had got the better of us and we headed off to a nearby bar for wine and snacks.

The start of the parade

This was our last night together and tomorrow I feel like I’m making my own way again and it’s a little sad! I’ve had such a great time with Amanda and her cousin Erin. They’re off to Cambodia in the morning and then Vietnam and wanted me to travel with them and if I hadn’t already been there this year I would have definitely gone. Hopefully though we might hook up again in Phuket.

So tomorrow, what shall I plan?! If I wake up early enough I might undertake a cooking course, if not I'll make onward travel plans and do some bits and pieces!

A really nice sign I saw outside of a temple
