Meeting with Sara in Phuket (30th November 2011)

Getting back to Phuket takes us on another two ferries but this time it’s not nearly as crowded as before and only takes us 3 hours to get back. I haven’t really worked out much of a forward plan apart from saying goodbye to the girls and then meeting with Sara, any more than that though is a little unorganized at the mo.

I need to get off of Phuket and travel south but at the moment it seems that this island is as hard to get off as it was to get on! It’s madness unless you want to fly everywhere, I feel like I could be trapped here forever! Which wouldn’t be such a bad thing I guess if only it wasn’t full of ‘go go’ bars and ‘go go’ girls and sad, fat, old western men drooling over girls less than half their age (ok I know I keep going on but it really is like that everywhere and it makes my skin crawl!) and of course if the prices were more in keeping with the rest of Thailand.

After I said goodbye to the girls I met up with Sara who I used to work with at Monarch until she left around 8 years ago. She’s then spent the last 3 and a half years with her husband and two kids living on Phuket, although they are now moving back to the UK just after I leave for home. Her husband has already gone back to the UK to start to get things sorted for their return while Sara and the kids are staying till the end of the school term. She’s very kindly offered for me to stay with them for the couple of nights I’m planning on being there which is really nice, she’s even coming to pick me up from Phuket town which is great.

Sara had the school run this afternoon so after we met in Phuket town we went straight out to the kids school which is a British International school, very nice and very expensive! It was interesting to visit it actually to see a little of how things can be here, there are kids here from all corners of the globe, speaking many different languages and all having a great time in the sun it seems! Sara’s kids are 7 and 8 and are very sweet with a funny little accent they’ve picked up from the friends they have at school, Sara said a lot of the kids pick up this International accent but soon lose it once they’re back home.

It always seems to be such a whirlwind when you’re with kids doesn’t it? They’re always on the go and there’s never 5 minutes free. I did manage to sort out onward travel though before we headed out to a local bar for a bite to eat.

My onward travel is by plane to KL and then hopefully straight on a bus to Melacca, I’d rather not fly as I do it every day but it seems this really is the only sensible way off of the island!
