Snorkelling at Ko Haa (29th November 2011)

The dive site at Ko Haa

This morning we’re being picked up at 7am to go snorkeling. Holidays and early mornings never seem to compute with me!

We’re actually joining with a dive boat this morning and going out with them, there are about 8 of us that are going to be snorkeling and the rest will be diving.

Ko Haa

I would have loved to be diving today but I had a bad experience in Tobago earlier this year and I’ve totally lost my confidence (again!), it’s so annoying. I love seeing all the wildlife in the water, it really is amazing, but every now and then I just have a bit of a freak out and then it takes some work to get back to where I was.

I thought the best place to start with that though was to snorkel and I can’t believe how nervous I’m feeling the closer we get to the dive site, this is just ridiculous! After a private almost hyperventilating moment I take the plunge and lower myself into the water and it was actually fine, I was surprised that as soon I was in I was ok, although I also know diving again is a bigger step for me, one day though.

The snorkeling was nice and was apparently the best in the area, it was a relatively shallow lagoon area in-between 3 small islands, but again I think I’ve been spoilt over the years because although it was nice it certainly wasn’t the best I’ve ever seen. I did see a baby shark and 3 moray eels though as well as a lobster and a lion fish and lots and lots of other regular fish. No Nemos though this time.

Back on the island we just about managed a shower before heading out for dinner again. The water situation in our bungalow is even getting to me a little now. If you flush the toilet there’s no water for the shower or sink for 5 minutes and even when there is water it doesn’t seem to want to come out of the tap, it makes showering for three girls a bit of a trial!

Tomorrow we’re off back to Phuket. Amanda and Erin are flying to Hong Kong before Erin continues for another week or so and Amanda goes home. For me, I could stay on Ko Lanta longer and maybe try some diving but there’s more I want to see and I really want to meet up with an old friend from work who’s in Phuket so time to move on again.

Not a great pic of any of us but thought it would be good to put faces to names! Me in a bikini is as unnecessary as overweight men with no shirts on!
